Winner of International Gold Medals and other international
awards, Atom Industries, an Australian company, have been inventing and manufacturing
innovative quality products for many years. Atom's international award winning inventions
are sold in over 30 countries worldwide.
Atom's first invention was the automatic
reverse gear drilling attachment that fitted onto chainsaws. This enabled
farmers to use their chainsaws to quickly drill holes of up to 32mm (11/4")
in diameter into wooden posts and run barbed, or plain wire (using smaller holes), through the fencing
post as well as to bolt together stockyards. It also has 100's of other uses
including use in tree surgery, electric power poles, playgrounds and park
amenities. This unique Automatic Reverse Gear drill attachment is still sold today as
the greatly advanced ATOM AUGER-STOP DRILLING ATTACHMENT which has an inertia safety mechanism
which disconnects forward gear if the auger suddenly jams (a world first), but still allowing reverse gear to operate to immediately withdraw the auger,
and then to recommence drilling.
In the 1970's, Atom completely manufactured their
own Atom chainsaws, in 5 models of 60cc and 75cc engine capacity, and was the world's first chainsaw company to have its complete
range of chainsaws with solid state electronic ignition; a patented turbo action
self cleaning air cleaner; as well as Atom's patented Anti-Vibration system
fitted to most models (all world's first). These then unique innovative features (patents now expired) are now standard
on quality chainsaws sold worldwide today. Atom's chainsaw production ceased
in the late 1970's as a result of the then government abolished tariff protection on
locally manufactured goods in 1974.
Atom's patented Electronic Ignition
System was originally made for the Atom Chainsaw. Patents have now expired but its (previously patented) circuitry is now used by others on many
engines in Europe, USA and Asia. The Atom Ignition Module was also developed as
a spare part to replace mechanical breaker points and condenser for magneto
ignition engines, and until Atom's production ceased in 2005, many millions had been sold worldwide. In 1975, the
Atom Electronic Ignition was the winner of "Invention of the Year" on the
ABC-TV program, "The Inventors".
In 1995 Atom began manufacturing it's
uniquely designed and patented
ATOM LAWN EDGER. It was awarded the
1995 Product
of the Year, voted by Power Equipment Australasia magazine. Within three years of release,
Atom became the largest selling lawn edgers in Australia and New Zealand, displacing old-fashioned,
slow and heavy lawn mower size edgers as well as displacing the then newly
introduced imported stick edgers.
The Atom Professional Edger was also awarded Product
of the Year in 1997.
In 1997 Atom Lawn Edgers won the prestigious International Gold Medal at the International
Inventions Exhibition in Geneva Switzerland, and are the world's only lawn edgers to achieve this International Gold Medal. It was also awarded the OEM MIE Award in the USA.
Several years later Atom developed and
patented its cross blade system for Atom Lawn Edgers. This outstanding system
increases edging speed, reduces blade wear and significantly reduces clatter
if a hard object is hit by the cross blade.
In June 1998, the new
ATOM ELECTRIC
LAWN EDGER was released. Its design
won the Silver/Gold Medal at the International
Inventions Convention in Geneva, Switzerland.
Another Atom edger model has been developed which is the special purpose
designed ATOM GOLF BUNKER EDGER for edging around sand traps on golf courses, and is
now used worldwide by the world's top golf courses.
In 2005 the innovative ATOM TILLER/CULTIVATOR
was developed (patents pending) and 4 models released in 2006. In 2006, the ATOM TILLER/CULTIVATORS were awarded Product of the Year as voted by
Power Equipment Magazine Australasia. In 2006, Atom won the prestigious International Gold Medal at the International Inventions Convention
in Geneva, Switzerland.
Atom also received a rare special commendation from the International Judging Panel. Atom Tiller/Cultivators are world's only tillers or
cultivators to achieve this International Gold Medal.
